Jin-ha Beach Clean up: Review

These days thanks to social media sites, the general public has become more aware of the growing trash problem in our world and our oceans. Unfortunately for everyone, likes and shares don't clean the mess that is currently there.

WeHOPE decided to take action. On Sunday March 17th, approximately 20 volunteers met at Jin-ha beach in hopes of making it a little bit cleaner and raising some awareness. When volunteers first arrived, there didn't seem to be much garbage but once they began walking around they found more than they could bargain for! Cans, bottles, tires, bags, plastic, styrofoam, cigarette butts etc.

One volunteer expressed that he was shocked and saddened by the state of the beach that he always thought was clean. Another volunteer said she was motivated to come after reading a newspaper article about a dead whale with 40 kilograms of plastic in it's stomach. Most other volunteers expressed that they felt good about what they had done but realize that it is only a drop in the bucket when viewed on a global scale.

A big thank you goes out to all of the volunteers who took time out of their busy schedules to do their part to help the community.
