On October 26th local families met at Ulsan Grand Park for the 2nd annual Trunk or Treat Halloween party. This year the WeHOPE team decided to step up their game and add a few more features to the event.
The first was a guessing game designed by WeHOPE's Vice President Nate Mandigo. He filled one jar with an undetermined amount of chocolate coins and the other with M&M's. All of the children who attended did their best to guess how many candies were in each jar. The winner of the M&M's jar was more surprised that someone had taken the time to count 1000+ candies!
The second event was the costume contest. A panel of carefully selected, totally unbiased, overly trained, well rested, enthusiastic, judges scanned the crowd in search of the cutest, scariest, and most original costumes. After some deliberation the votes were in.
The Cutest: Biker Baby
The Scariest: Chucky
The Most Original: Mad Scientist
This year saw an increased number of families attending as well. "Our inaugural year had around 30-35 cars, this year we had to cap it at 60 even though I think we could have easily reached 100" reported one WeHOPE representative. There were well over 100 kids as well which is great for a city the size of Ulsan. It was also apparent that parents had really come prepared this year. Some of the trunks were decorated so well. There was talk of a top trunk contest next year! Have a look below to see how much effort was put into these wonderful creations.
Overall the event went off without a hitch. By the end of it, kids were all smiling (because the tummy aches clearly hadn't set in yet!) and parents were all happy and excited to join such a unique event. After most of the cars pulled away, WeHOPE volunteers stayed back to pick up all of the candy wrappers and popped balloons and made sure the meeting place was spotless before leaving.
Next year WeHOPE plans to hold this event once again but it will likely start earlier and have more games and activities for kids before the trunk or treating starts.
